Dr. Ward sees many patients with varying degrees of missing teeth. Whether you need to replace one, several, or all of your teeth, implants can certainly be an option for you. Once a full examination and xrays are completed, Dr. Ward will discuss your options with you.
Dental implants are a permanent and esthetic solution to replace missing or extracted teeth. They can be a better option than other alternatives like bridges because no additional teeth need to be altered to place the new tooth. Implants look and function like natural teeth allowing the patient to eat and smile with confidence.
The entire implant process is performed over the course of a few months. The first part of the process is to install the implant itself, where a custom titanium post is placed into the jaw bone. An incision is made in the gum so that the implant can be inserted. Multiple implants can be placed at once if necessary. After the implants are placed, the gums are sutured and the implant remains under the gums for approx. six months to ensure proper healing and integration into the gum.
After the implant has healed an abutment is placed on the implant. The abutment serves as the base for your new tooth. Once this is placed, an impression of the abutment is taken and is used to create your permanent restoration. Once the restoration is completed you return to Dr. Ward’s office to attach the restoration permanently. Your smile will look just like it used to, and after a short period of getting used to it will feel just like one of your own teeth.
Why dental implants?
Dental implants can have a dramatic effect on one’s appearance and function. If you are missing one tooth, several teeth or wear dentures, implants can restore the function and health of your mouth. This will lead to healthy gums, better ability to chew and a more esthetic smile.
