The typical routine checkup at Dr. Ward’s office consists of you, the patient, being seated in the hygienist’s chair. She will review your medical history, ask if there is any particular area of concern and proceed to take x-rays when needed. She will then provide a thorough cleaning, periodontal evaluation and oral cancer screening. You will be instructed in home care education to keep your mouth healthy between cleanings. Children under the age of 14 will receive a topical fluoride treatment. Topical fluoride treatment helps strengthen tooth enamel protecting them from acids which cause decay. Dr. Ward will examine your teeth for cavities and evaluate your overall oral health. In order to keep a bright, healthy smile throughout adulthood it is important to practice proper oral hygiene. Even adults can get cavities and gum disease.
Adults who have brushed and flossed regularly during their lifetime may still face certain issues during their senior years. Wearing dentures, taking medication, dry mouth, and diabetes are some of the issues Dr. Ward recognizes many seniors face. He is fully qualified and willing to treat all phases of adult dentistry.
